Our donors are just like you

We have met hundreds of amazing women who have successfully fulfilled our criteria and want to donate. Our donors come from all walks of life, but what they all have in common is the desire to help other women.

There is a huge demand for egg donors and all donor eggs are very gratefully received. Egg donation is carefully regulated to protect everyone involved, and we want to make sure it’s right for you. If you’re thinking about donating, you’ll need to meet some basic criteria:

  • You must be in good health, with a clear medical history and no genetic or hereditary disorders (such as Type 1 Diabetes)
  • Aged 18 to 35 years old – with a good ovarian reserve
  • Your BMI should be under 30
  • You have been a non-smoker for at least last 3 months (including vaping)
  • You must agree to have statutory blood tests taken: HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis

While the donation procedure is straightforward, we understand that it’s still a big decision.

You’ll need to be sure you’re able to attend clinic appointments, take medication and be happy to go through our screening checks. You will also be offered independent specialist counselling.

If you’ve donated before, then you can still donate with us. Regulations in Denmark mean each donor can donate a maximum of 6 times and at least one month must pass between donations. As an egg donor, you have no rights or obligations towards the child, just as the child has no rights in relation to you.

The clinic were really good at explaining the medication I had to take – at first I was worried about the idea of the injections – but after they showed me how and I found I could do it easily. On the day of the egg collection I came into the clinic early. I was nervous about the idea of having s...

Types of donors

When you become a donor, if you want to, you are entitled to know about any babies born as a result of your donation. You won’t be given any personal details, but you can be told whether the baby is a boy or a girl, and the year they were born. The regulations in Copenhagen mean you can choose if the babies born from your donation can (open) or can’t (anonymous) find out more information on you from 18 years of age.

Anonymous donation

Egg donation can take place completely anonymously, which means that you do not know the recipient and that the recipient does not know you. No more information will be provided about you than what’s within the donor evaluation. You will always remain anonymous to the recipient and any children from your donation.

Open donation

You can also choose to donate as an open donor. This means that you are anonymous at the time of donation, but when any children born of your donation reach 18, they can contact Vitanova for details about you, including your identity. We will contact you before we provide this information. Those who receive your eggs cannot be given this information and it is also not possible for you to obtain information about them.

Known donation

If you have a friend, sister or know a woman to whom you want to donate eggs, this is called ‘known’ donation. The person you are donating to does not have to be on the waiting list, so can start treatment when the blood tests, donor evaluation, doctor consultation and medical examination are complete.
